The Journey of Ambition by Honda Accord

Let me present to you, The Journey of Ambition.

This was what kept me super crazy since February. With a very tight deadline of over 2 months…

  • we refurbished 7 Generations of Honda Accord
  • worked closely with 3 other photographers : Asyraf, Darren & Patrick
  • went to the factory/plant to shoot the process
  • produced a coffee table book
  • and produced a photographic roadshow exhibition set-up nationwide

Although its been painful months of hardwork process, i must say thank you to Ktalyst International for giving me this opportunity again (previously similiar project was The Perfectionist). It has always been a pleasure working with the team.

Do go check the roadshows out while its still on at these places:

13 to 17 APR Queensbay Mall, P.Penang
20 to 24 APR 1 U shopping Centre, P.J.
11 to 15 MAY Bangsa Village, K.L.
25 to 29 MAY Empire Gallery, Subang, Selangor D.E.
21 to 26 JUN Tebrau City, J.B.

Autodetailer @ Jaya1

Recently i had the privilege to visit my talented auto-detailer cum photographer friend; Darren Chang. He and his family recently moved the detailing business from section 13 to Jaya1 (for those who are in petaling jaya, malaysia) will know these areas.

I’m telling you, i have now officially crown AutoDetailer the coolest place to be in PJ, the interior design has this urban raw grunge look and feel to it, its clean, its bright and its air-conditioned. But all those are nothing, there are 2 other MAIN MAIN MAIN “unique-selling-point” to this place.

One, its the waiting lounge, with wifi, TV, long work table AND iPads for customers to fondle with! Now thats generous!

Two, hidden at one very corner, there is a “white-matrix” like room, with the if not mistaken, largest lightbox known to Malaysia, which cost somewhat like RM70k to build. This little studio’s lighting is so perfect, that you dont even need any pro cameras to have pro images! Its also open to host small events like car launches.

So, what can you exactly do here? Basically in plain english, its a super high end car wash, polishing / wax a.k.a auto detailing service. They clean and refurbish every nook of your car, but of coz this comes with a whopping price of RM1k and above depending on your car and the services needed. But i’m telling you, from the works i’ve seen them done, its a miracle, they transform any old junk into a brand new car!

Anyways, enough talk talk, and let the pictures speak for themselves!

Utmost congratulations to Darren & family!

GF1 & E-P2 side by side, a 5 minute review

took the opportunity to do a little test drive when these 2 cameras are present together over some drinks :)

physically side by side…they seemed like they both are about the same size, with the olympus slightly slimmer. The Olympus is also much more lighter than the GF1 (yes, the GF1 is heavier than expected, but it feels much more solid than the E-P2).

Although the Olympus is slimmer and lighter, i love the GF1 20mm pancake lens. Its so much more slimmer and sleek compared. Not to mention better quality with the advantage of aperture too.

Next, I fiddled the Olympus and loved the one extra function which is the Art Filter function which allow the photographer to have Cross Processed, dramatic B&W, Soft Focus, Pop Art, Diorama and few more others which the GF1 doesnt have. Do take note though, that when you use these filters, the camera takes a little time to process your image. So that bit was a bit of a turn off for me.

Another win factor for the Olympus is the “shutter” sound. The GF1 has a rather annoying loud “click” and focusing noises from the pancake lens.

* *  *

space for comparison image coming soon.

* * *

In conclusion (after just “fondling” with the camera more a mere 5 to 10mins), i personally still like the GF1 for its looks & pancake lens. But really, I think both cameras are great in their own ways, depending on your own personal preference.

The Olympus is lighter, quieter and has a better grip. Lovely extra Art Filters. But the kit lens isnt that fabulous and it has a high price tag. And oh, no built in flash.

The GF1 has a retro near Leica look, heavy and feels much more solid, but with better lens and cheaper compared.

Panasonic GF1 + Leica Summicron 35mm lens

I have a new obsession. I recently sold off my DSLR and changing the system to Micro 4/3. In the next few upcoming post, I’ll be posting up set-ups of the GF1 camera along with some classic / old / retro or 3rd party lenses. So heres the first one. Hope you like it :)

* * *

The setup : Panasonic GF1 camera + L(M) to M4/3 adapter + Leica Summicron 35mm lens

This lens is small and compact at the same time solid and heavy. I must say the Germans did a very good job here. the focus is easily manageable with your index finger, smooth and slides easily. However, one unfortunate fact is that when you mount these classic lens onto the micro 4/3 camera, the focal length doubles up, making it a little difficult since its a prime lens (meaning no zooms). So from a 35mm, it immediately became a 70mm focal length, not advisable if you want to take something close up.

(*Note to noobs : this lens is a M-Mount lens for Leica camera bodies ie. M8 and its totally manual focus based.)

Images taken with this set-up (excellent creamy bokeh produced!) :

Special thanks to @segnic13 for generously trusting me with her Leica Summicron lens :)

lens comparison : leica / helios / panasonic

3 different lens to be used on one camera. is it possible? YES :) thanks to adapters.

Will be mounting all these 3 lens on a micro 4/3 camera and write a review on it soon. Meanwhile, here are just some pictures as a comparison for sizes, just to give you an idea.

left to right :

  1. Leica Summicron 35mm (Leica M Mount)
  2. Helios 44M 58mm (M42 Mount)
  3. Panasonic Pancake 20mm lens (Micro 4/3)

Most appreciated if you guys could let me know what you’d like me to compare in the upcoming post between these lenses. :) Cheers ~

fisheye lens are FUN!

heres why one should get a fisheye lens, not necessarily only on a Canon S90, but you can set up one for yourself on handphones, lomo, diana, and DSLR!

you and your friends will have heaps of fun :)

Fisheye profiles of my friends

Fisheye mount on Canon S90 tips

s90fisheyesample1

There are 2 ways to mount fisheye lens to your S90, first you need a lens adapter, 2 options here.

a) Quick-Change Filter Holder by Lensmate or b) RN-9 Lens Adapter which you can get over at ebay.

After days of research, i decided to go with option B. The filter holder by lensmate felt a little flimsy as its just glued onto the camera. Anything that i mount on it COULD drop anytime right? Well, thats what i thought, but the RN-9 adapter allows me to screw the adapter onto the camera itself. I felt somewhat “safer”.

However the not-so-great part about the RN-9 adapter is that its bulky and big. Anyways, after ordering it over ebay, a week later the RN-9 arrived. Its solid and well worth the price (under USD20)

Next, get yourself a fisheye lens, there are heaps to choose from, depending on your preference and budget really. Theres Vivitar, Opteka, cheap China / Hong Kong brands etc…all easily obtained over ebay. I didnt have to go out to any shops :) Heres some tips before you buy the fisheye:

- remember that the mount ring is 37mm, try to avoid getting step up or step down rings, it will affect sharpness around the image

- fisheye / wideangle lens comes with numbers like 0.35x, 0.21x, 0.25x, 0.42x etc….the smaller the number, the higher the “curve” / more extreme fisheye its going to be

- cheap fisheye lens from Hong Kong on ebay comes with free shipping worldwide

the S90 isnt as slim and sleek anymore!

Conclusion: I’m pretty satisfied with the overall outcome, having spend less than USD60 overall, the built for the adapter is excellent and im surprised too with the quality of the fisheye lens, it felt heavier than expected. Only thing now, with this setup, the S90 is kinda bulky and wont fit into pocket.
